Vacation Day at Santa Monica Beach

It was a slightly overcast and windy day to head to the beach, but that made the trip all the nicer, avoiding the feeling of being fried by the sun.

 LIBRARY!

Getting off a few blocks before the beach to wander around Santa Monica, I ran right into a library on the main street.

Well served by transit from L.A. I would suggest trying to avoid evening rush hour (though that goes for if you're driving, too), otherwise the 704 Rapid trip takes a leisurely hour to get from W. Hollywood to the beach. Make sure you get on the Rapid, as the local lets you off on Sepulveda and L.A. transit doesn't give transfers to cash fare payers.

Approaching the promise land.

 Bluffs overlooking the ocean.

Selfie on the beach. When in L.A., do as the Angelenos...

A slightly cloudy day is really the best day to visit, as you can enjoy the sun and surf without feeling like you're frying for hours.

Baywatch impression, though I guess running away from the water is the wrong direction.

If sitting on the sand isn't your thing, there are activities on the bluffs to keep you active. I had never heard of Pétanque, but a quick internet search informs me it is like horseshoes with balls. Alrighty, then.

Doing the tourist thing at the end of Historic Route 66.

Saying goodbye to chillaxin' Cali style.
