Couchsurfing Día de Muertos Altar

The weekly Couchsurfing meetup took place at a home in the neighboring city of Zapopan. A couple of classmates and I took the 51D bus out to the suburbs to participate in the festivities.

A gathering of friends new and old preparing marigolds to spread around the altar.

Día de los Muertos combines pre-Hispanic traditions with the Catholic holidays of All Saints Day and All Souls Day.

Food and drink aplenty to share. Someone made Pan de Muertos in cupcakes form!

Frijoles cooking up on the stove, just waiting for some tortillas to be fried for serving.

The patio was a popular spot all night. Conversations flowed between English, Spanish, German, French, and even a little Romanian. Couchsurfer events do give you a taste of the world at almost every party.
